Hello Y10

In this week's lessons we have looked at the presentation of both Frankenstein and the monster.

We annotated Extract from Chapter 10 and Extract from Chapter 11 (though there is more to say about 10). This gives the reader an alternative perspective: the monster's. Here he is presented as benevolent.

If you weren't in the lesson, you must annotate the Chapter 10 extract. Use this annotation success criteria to guide you. Then write an agony aunt letter from the monster trying to embed quote from the text. Here is a success criteria for this.

Remember to get your planners signed if you're not 15 so you can watch Macbeth soon.

See you soon

Hello Y10

Your homework over the weekend has been to write two PPE+ paragraphs on the presentation of Frankenstein in Chapter 5. If on doubt, look at the yellow sheet you were given on Friday. You should now have two paragraphs on the monster and two on Frankenstein.

You could consider the textual reference of The Rime of The Ancient Mariner. How does this help the reader understand the emerging themes in the novel?

In this week's lessons we story boarded the synopsis of the novel Frankenstein. If you missed the lesson you need to do this. Here is a useful synopsis or here. Please storyboard the main points in your book before next lesson.
We also looked at Chapter 5, one of our extracts, and considered the presentation of the monster. If you missed the lesson go through and highlight any words or phrases with some annotation of the impact upon the reader. Here it is!
Once you've done that, consider how you'd set out a PEE+ paragraph answering 'How is the monster presented in Chapter 5?'.

Hello Y10

Some good stuff today, well done.

Those of you who didn't get 10/10 in the spelling test learn the words you don't know. Every now and then,I'll slip in an old spelling to ensure you have a secure understanding. I hope I don't see the words spelt incorrectly again.

We've got lots of learning to do so I hope the stats increase on this blog. It is here to support and extend your learning. Using it will improve your understanding and grade.

Here is the guidance for the super-document, which is due in on Monday.

Good luck with the rest of the presentations.

See you next week.

Hello Y10

Today we started one of the texts for our next Controlled Assessment: Frankenstein. The other text will be Macbeth.

As one of the Assessment Objectives is about the historical context, we are starting with presentations on the historical context in which the novel was written (1818).

Each group will include information on:
  • Mary Shelley
  • Romanticism
  • Mary Wolstonecraft
  • The Gothic genre
  • The status of women
  • Science
  • The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
  • Paradise Lost
You should have a detailed understanding of each of these aspects and, even though you're working as a group, you need to have individual notes.

This learning will ensure you have a good understanding and can debate the issues as they come up in the text.

As I said in today's lesson, we are going to start having a spelling test once a week to help secure common spellings. This week's words (for Tuesday's lesson) are:
  • That's
  • they're
  • their
  • your
  • you're
  • it's
  • its
  • apparent
  • conscious
  • environment
Lots of good work today! I'm looking forward to the presentations.

P.S. Remember, if you miss a lesson, you need to use this blog to keep up with what's happening in lesson time. Here then, you'll benefit from researching some of the above topics from home
